about

Stonewall was an anti-police riot led by trans women of color. I’m honored to be the descendant of this dank legacy, and think that centering the radical origin of Stonewall instead of the rainbow capitalism that descends upon us every June is integral to queer and trans liberation.
I was raised wary of the police. Every Black kid gets “The Talk” at some point. An explanation as to why some folx treat you differently, how you ended up in this country and what your ancestors went through, and a guide to surviving interactions with the police.
The badges that sheriffs wear are the exact same as the ones slave catchers wore.
The for profit prison industrial complex profits off of shackled Black folx just the way slavery did.
The police and the prison industrial complex do not make us safer.
No cops at pride. Center and amplify the voices of trans women of color. Don’t fucking call the cops.
Trust your community, get to know your neighbors, wage love.

lyrics

You know there’s more than one way home
Not on these streets should you roam
Hands on the wheel
You don’t talk back, they just see Black

Wallet on the dash
Move slowly, knowing only
A thin blue line stands between your face smashed
And your soul
Snatched

Red, red, red, red, roses in the road
Cherries and berries blow you away
Red, red, red, red, roses in the road
Cherries and berries left you cold

Slave catchers in the streets
Faces no longer hidden with sheets
Police badges gleam
Their purpose the same
Fulfilling plantation dreams

Black bodies in bags
Names turned into hashtags
Wheel of time keeps turning
What are we learning?

He called you a demon
And they believed him
He called you a demon
And they redeemed him

White lies can’t be undone
Did you run?
White lies can’t be undone
There’s no gun

You know there’s more than one way home
